Direct and manage all aspects of the company’s domestic, international, and delivery transportation networks, including strategic network design and oversight, and compliance related to the shipment of goods, carrier relations, equipment, and associated personnel. This individual will be given a broad range of autonomy in executing the goal for this role, so it’s critical that our Transportation & Compliance Manager is comfortable leading these efforts with minimal oversight, while concurrently working with interdepartmental teams to drive this roles’ expected outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Design, develop and implement cost effective domestic and international shipping strategies through the development and enhancement carrier relationships and networks, rate negotiation, and operational change management.
Prepare cost analyses to measure and track the level of effectiveness and service performance of our carrier network(s), identifying and developing improved methods of preparing shipments to reduce carrier costs and damages, along with developing and monitoring carrier performance scorecards utilizing defined organizational KPI’s.
Plan and direct internal fleet operations including optimization of delivery routes, applicable DOT/State regulations, and hours of service.
Negotiate and manage the company vehicle lease program, in addition work closely with the Facilities Manager and Transportation Analyst on maintenance schedules and necessary repairs.
Scheduling of carriers (inbound and outbound) including LTL, Small Parcel (pick-up, linehauls etc.) and FTL.
Keep current in Transportation and Logistics trends, methods and regulations through continuing education, seminars and conferences.
Work directly and communicate with internal departments and external customers, vendors or carrier partners to resolve challenges related to transportation & logistics.
Establish departmental budget (implementing necessary controls) to keep expenditures within budgetary compliance.
Manage staff within the Traffic Department, including development of objectives and necessary training, DOT requirements, staff performance reviews with recommendation of salary adjustments, promotions, transfers, hiring and disciplinary action.
Demonstrated expertise in domestic and international regulations that impact the transportation and logistics function, including NAFTA, CAFTA, National Motor Freight Classification Tariff (NMFC), hazardous shipping requirements, carrier contracts, freight claim filings, and motor carrier cargo insurance.
Accountable for product and facility compliance with respect to VOC, PROP 65, CESQG, EPA, OSHA, Hazardous, and CARB regulations and/or registrations.
Key stakeholder (i) for other departments to direct compliance issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution; (ii) consult with corporate counsel (where necessary) to resolve difficult legal compliance issues; (iii) conduct audits, compliance trainings, documentation enhancements, etc.; and (iv) classify each product sold internationally with harmonized system codes: USHTS Number (import), European HTS Number (import), and Canadian HTS Number (import).
Establish, manage and communicate shipping and packaging requirements in accordance with all applicable DOT and regulatory guidelines.
Provide and present reporting on a regular basis, and as directed or requested, to keep the Company Officers and senior management informed of the operation and progression of compliance efforts.
Develop new regulatory policies, processes, guidelines, and SOP’s to train key personnel within the organization to ensure consistency of understanding and knowledge.

Education and/or Experience:
Undergraduate college degree in Transportation, Supply Chain, Logistics or related field along with currency in developing/planning for future trends. Minimum 5 years of progressive Transportation and or Logistics management responsibilities in a distribution environment with multiple sites, including tangible international distribution experience.
Demonstrated experience in freight negotiations, transportation cost savings and quality management.
Familiarity with and application of new technologies towards logistics and the physical transportation operations.
Quantifiable regulatory compliance experience.
